| Background | Cysteine-rich with EGF-like domain protein 2 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the CRELD2 gene. It is mapped to 22q13.33. CRELD2 was identified by searching a sequence database using CRELD1 as the query. Like CRELD1, with which it shares 38% amino acid identity, the deduced 321-amino acid CRELD2 protein contains EGF-like repeats and a highly conserved domain rich in glutamic acid and tryptophan (WE domain). The major distinction between CRELD1 and CRELD2 is that CRELD1 has 2 type III transmembrane domains in its C terminus, while CRELD2 has none. CRELD2 shares 67% and 69% amino acid identity with its Chinese hamster and mouse homologs, respectively. |
