| Background | SYNPR( Synaptoporin) is a component of the synaptic vesicle membrane and thought to play an important role in synaptic vesicle trafficking. It is highly homologous to Synaptophysin 1 yet it differs in expression. Synaptophysin 1 is ubiquitiously expressed, SYNPR is concentrated in the mossy fibre synapses of the hippocampus. Synaptoporin, an intrinsic membrane protein of small synaptic vesicles, probably functions as vesicular channel protein. |
