Background	Function: Mediates the uptake of glutamate into synaptic vesicles at presynaptic nerve terminals of excitatory neural cells. May also mediate the transport of inorganic phosphate. Reduction of protein level in homozygous and heterozygous knockouts leads to a graded reduction in the amplitude of the postsynaptic response to single vesicle fusion in thalamic neurons, consistent with a role for this protein in determining quantal size.
