| Background | Tumor Necrosis Factor alpha (TNF-alpha) is a cytokine which has various immunomodulatory, antitumor and toxic effects. TNF-alpha has been detected in various inflammatory status and appears to be a critical mediator in the lethality of septic shock. Furthermore, TNF-alpha has also been found in inflammatory foci such as synovial effusions in rheumatoid arthritis, systemic circulation in septic shock, parasitemia and rejection of renal transplants. |
